Bringing History to Life: 5th Graders Explore the Italian Renaissance in Baltimore

Mrs. McCann's 5th Grade Humanities classes recently embarked on an exciting field trip to Baltimore, bringing their studies of the Italian Renaissance to life. Their journey began at the historic Baltimore Basilica, America’s first cathedral, where they explored the architectural and religious influences of the Renaissance era. Next, they visited the Walters Art Museum, where they admired masterpieces from the period, deepening their appreciation for the art and culture they had studied in class.

To cap off the day, the students channeled their inner Renaissance artisans—not with paint and sculpture, but with pizza dough! At Bertucci’s, they crafted their own pizzas, tying their culinary experience to the rich traditions of Italian culture. Throughout the trip, their insightful questions and discussions reflected their strong grasp of the material, making the day a memorable and enriching extension of their classroom learning.
