Lower School Students Perform the National Anthem before the Harlem Globetrotters Basketball Game!

On Sunday, March 16th, lower school students and their families gathered at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on the University of Maryland Baltimore County campus to perform the National Anthem before the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game!  The Harlem Globetrotters, an iconic American exhibition basketball team, were originally formed in 1926 in Chicago as the Savoy Big Five. They became famous for their unique combination of athleticism, comedy, and theatrical performance, having played over 26,000 exhibition games in 124 countries.

Mrs. Jenna Daly, the Performing Arts Department Chair at Gerstell Academy, sought an opportunity to showcase the lower school music program and found an exciting possibility involving the Harlem Globetrotters. Mrs. Daly rallied interest from lower school students and their families and submitted a video of the group singing the National Anthem. To her delight, Gerstell was selected! On the day of the event, 42 lower school students, dressed in their school uniforms, performed in front of a crowd of over 4,000 people. Parents were proud of their children for exhibiting the courage to perform at such a large venue.

The event was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and pride among the students, their families, and the school.
