Gerstell Academy Uses Art to Give Back at Empty Bowls Event
Art and community came together as Gerstell Academy’s National Art Honor Society (NAHS) hosted a special community service event on Friday, February 28th. Students, faculty, and families gathered to paint ceramic bowls, each uniquely designed with creativity and care. These bowls will be donated to The Shepherd’s Staff for their 2025 Empty Bowls Event, an initiative aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat food and income insecurity in Carroll County. Through this effort, participants not only expressed their artistic talents but also contributed to a meaningful cause that directly supports local residents in need.
In a show of generosity and commitment to service, the Gerstell community will be donating 51 beautifully crafted bowls to the event. These bowls will be used during the fundraiser, where attendees receive a meal in exchange for their donation, symbolizing the struggle many face when dealing with food insecurity. The Shepherd’s Staff’s mission to provide a “hand up” rather than a handout aligns with Gerstell’s core values of leadership, character, and service. Through this initiative, students had the opportunity to make a tangible impact, reinforcing the power of art as a vehicle for community engagement and support.
