The Lower School Running Club is Off to a Great Start!

On Thursday, October 10th, third and fourth grade students laced up their athletic shoes to join the Running Club. This weekly gathering leads to the Pie Run, a community event where participants can choose between a 5K and a 1-mile fun run on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

The Running Club, one of the newest additions to the Lower School after school line up, is quickly becoming a favorite among students. Open to all third and fourth graders, regardless of fitness level, the club focuses on proper running techniques and breathing practices. Each session includes a chance for students to take a leadership role to lead warm-up and cool-down stretches, and they especially enjoy wrapping up each week with a few core exercises. As physical training is one of the four pillars of the Gerstell leadership model, Ms. Ann Marie Graham, the club's organizer, felt it was essential to offer this opportunity to students who may not be involved in other sports or who might not consider participating in the Pie Run. According to Ms. Graham, students are so enthusiastic about running club, they start asking me about the route every Monday morning at carpool!”
