Music, Magic, and Milestones: Gerstell Academy Performs at Festival Disney

From March 27 to April 1, Gerstell Academy’s instrumental students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Festival Disney in Orlando, Florida. Combining members from the string orchestra and band, these 21 members formed the school's very first full orchestra. As part of this nationally recognized event, student ensembles from across the country came together to perform, compete, and celebrate musical excellence. Gerstell Academy’s orchestra participated in a judged performance, receiving feedback from distinguished adjudicators in a world-class setting. The trip also included time to enjoy the Disney parks, giving students a chance to bond and create lasting memories beyond the concert stage. 

A highlight of the experience was Gerstell Academy’s participation in Disney Soundtrack Sessions, an exclusive workshop where the orchestra entered a professional recording studio and performed Disney film music under the guidance of a seasoned Disney musician. Students gained firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a professional studio musician, learning how music enhances storytelling in film. The immersive session concluded with a recording of their performance synced to actual Disney animation, providing a magical and inspiring capstone to the workshop. 

The festival also brought individual recognition to Cambrie Franks on the flute, who was honored with the Outstanding Concert Soloist award, one of nine students out of over a thousand performers earning the highest individual accolades at the event. Her achievement is a testament to her talent and dedication, and an excellent representation of Gerstell Academy's music program. The trip was a huge success, offering students both professional growth and unforgettable experiences in the heart of Walt Disney World. In addition to the in-person festivities, Erin Yelland performed in Disney’s Virtual Solo and Ensemble program. Her solo performance was submitted online and adjudicated by professional Disney musicians, showcasing her musicianship on a national platform.
