Gerstell Academy’s Current Events Club Presents

Representatives of the Upper School Current Events Club presented an overview of the Piedmont Reliability Project to the upper school students, faculty and staff on Thursday, January 9thHeld in the Paterakis Athletic Center gymnasium, the presentation was designed to teach students and attendees about the impending project which proposes to construct a high-voltage electricity transmission line across 70 miles of private and public land. The New Jersey based Public Service Enterprise Group is planning to provide energy to Virginia based data centers.

The plan is seen as controversial by many residents, as the government plans to use Eminent Domain as a way to commandeer private property in order to place the lines. Gerstell parent and local Carroll County landowner, Mr. Jeremy Myers was interviewed by members of the Current Events Club regarding the potential for the project to install transmission lines through his farm. The interview was recorded and presented during the assembly.
