Gerstell welcomes faculty and students back to campus!

On Tuesday, August 27th, lower school students began the year with a two-hour orientation which provided them with an opportunity to meet their teachers, reconnect with friends and meet new ones!  Lower school students also brought in their extension projects following the summer reading of Nim’s Island, which everyone in lower school enjoyed!  On First Friday, the first Friday of the academic year, lower school students will share these projects with their classmates, attend a cookout, and take part in games and activities related to the theme of the book.

In middle school, students traversed the Robert E. Smith Hall (RESH) looking for classrooms, finding their lockers, and meeting teachers and friends.  The first leadership assembly of the year focused on the expectations of a middle school student.  Students also learned about athletic opportunities for the upcoming fall, winter and spring seasons.  While information about the dress code was being shared, students modeled a few lighthearted examples of what not to wear in middle school.  In advisories, students discussed the BOK (Book of Knowledge) and tips for organization and study skills.

On Monday, August 26th, seniors kicked off the year with a welcome back sunrise breakfast and a trip to Hershey Park.  Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors attended on-campus orientation.  On Friday, all upper school students will attend First Fruits Farm in Freeland, Maryland.  First Fruits Farm is a nonprofit organization that grows and donates fresh produce to food banks, shelters, and other partners in Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region.  Upper school students will spend the morning donating their time and talent to support this wonderful cause.

The Gerstell community looks forward to another year of developing young leaders dedicated to a better tomorrow.
