The Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company visits Gerstell Academy!

On a beautiful fall afternoon, Pre-K and Kindergarten students welcomed the Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company located in Carroll County! Established in 1948, the fire company received its first fire truck that December. The original building and adjacent carnival grounds were acquired from Stoner’s Nursery in October 1950. Ground was broken for the current facility in August 1954, which was dedicated on March 26, 1956. Today, the fire company operates with two engines, an engine tanker, a rescue squad, and houses two EMS units. In 2023, they responded to 854 fire calls and 1,441 EMS calls.

The firefighters arrived at Gerstell on engines 91 and 92, bringing an exciting learning opportunity for the students. They explored the different parts of a fire engine and the various equipment on board. The students were educated about fire safety practices, including the important "stop, drop, and roll" technique. They also learned about the different components of a firefighter's uniform and were encouraged to view firefighters as helpers in emergencies. A highlight of the visit was the chance to explore the inside of engine 92, and each student received a special fire hat as a gift from the fire company!

Thank you, Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company, for sharing your time, talents and treasures!
