Welcome to Gerstell Academy!
The Gerstell Academy, incorporated in 1996 by Dr. Frederick G. Smith, is an independent, non-profit, co-educational, non-sectarian, college preparatory school offering students an educational program of excellence in a community focused on Gerstell Principles and Attributes and Motto, "Leadership, Honor, Courage." We seek to maximize the potential of each student to become a leader by developing moral and ethical decision-making skills, problem-solving abilities, and intellectual discernment. The core curriculum supports the development of leadership abilities and provides the foundation for values, knowledge and social skills essential to a Gerstell education. Parental understanding and involvement are integral to our educative process and to the fulfillment of the Gerstell Academy mission.
Our campus consists of over 250 acres of beautiful rolling countryside. The centerpiece of the campus is the magnificent Robert E. Smith Hall, whose Georgian architecture is patterned after that seen at the University of Virginia, an institution founded by Thomas Jefferson. This structure provides the space and amenities for a pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade student body. Unique to our school is the over 185 pieces of original artwork pertaining to leaders of merit and the life sized bronze sculpture of Thomas Jefferson, which can be observed in our second floor rotunda. Within the confines of our campus one will see tennis courts, athletic fields and a state of the art six lane track surrounding a sportexe turf field. Our 1,000 seat stadium complex is adjacent to the 67,000 square foot Paterakis Academic/Athletic Center and provides our community and guests with a spacious venue to watch our student athletes compete in soccer, lacrosse, and track. Our newest building, Carolyn B. Smith Hall, houses our dining facility, classroom space, as well as Upper School biology, chemistry and physics laboratories.
