Brandon Tan ’18 graduated from Villanova University with honors in 2022. During his time at Gerstell, he aspired to one day attend medical school. While these thoughts are still possibly a part of his long-range plan, his interests shifted, and he decided to take a break from his schooling and enter the work industry for a few years.

 

While at Villanova, Brandon took several business classes, in addition to his pre-med requirements. During this time, he grew a deep interest in the intersection of healthcare/sciences and business and tried to tailor his education towards this during his last semesters of college.

 

Brandon began a new position recently with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in the Big Pharma industry. He is in their “Future Leaders Program” under the communications and government affairs teams which is in their business operations function. His team works with global/local officials and leaders with pharmaceutical drugs/product expansion and campaign awareness as well as provision and expansion to 3rd world countries/areas with limited access to meds. This is a great opportunity he found and was recruited for through Villanova’s alumni network and allows him the opportunity to explore the intersection of healthcare/sciences and business, as mentioned earlier. Brandon continues the work of “helping others” which he aspires to do, and he always did well in upper school, just on a different level and a different manner than he had expected.

 

Brandon is currently completing three 8-month rotations, with his first being in Global Oncology Comms based in Philadelphia. This will afford him the opportunity for two years to explore industry options prior to deciding about graduate school, a return for medical school or other route, but he is definitely planning to earn his MBA within the next 2 years.
